Loren Lorenz has been interested in art all his life. When he was younger he did a lot of drawing and eventually graduated to wood carving while he was in the Navy. After his discharge, Loren added a chisel to his woodcarving and began creating pictures. Approximately six years ago, he became interested in Intarsia after having seen a picture of a snowman in a wood magazine.

He currently maintains a full-time job and does his Intarsia in his spare time. Loren designs a lot of his own patterns from pictures. If you are requesting a project, please send a picture (preferably color) of what you want. No two pieces or pictures are alike - they are all one of a kind, due to the different grains in the woods used.

To create his projects, Loren uses a combination of a band saw, scroll saw, belt sander, and dermal tool to achieve various finishes. When finished, the pieces are contoured and raised to give them a three dimensional appearance. This process is what makes his pictures original.
