INTARSIA: The art of painting with wood

Intarsia is an ancient woodworking art using various types of wood, creating a three-dimensional picture. Often, several different types of wood are used in a single piece to achieve the desired look. This is accomplished through the color and grain patterns of the wood.

Intarsia is believed to have originated in Italy in the 14th century, but became a lost art over the centuries due to the intensive labor required to create a single piece. As a result of modernization and tool inventions, intarsia has been resurrected.
